The SJV Library will begin a special
book collection for a school in Lusaka, Zambia. Zambia is a
poor, but happy, country in Sub-Saharan Africa. Mrs. Esther
Jordan, owner of Pinewood Preparatory School, visited St. John
Vianney School in December. She was very impressed with the
school and totally in awe of the resources we have and use
daily. She was especially interested in the amount of books we
have and commented on how difficult to obtain and how expensive
books are in her country. I decided then to contribute books to
her school so her children can have the necessary tools to
overcome obstacles and have a brighter future. I have
investigated different methods of shipping and will send the
books via a container ship. The next shipment will be at the end
of April and I hope to have a drum ready to go by then.
I will have empty boxes in the
Library labeled “Books for Zambia.” Students may bring in gently
worn books - please do not send in dirty or torn books. Please
send in books appropriate for PK—grade eight.
Reading helps kids develop their
imagination, and reading is key to breaking the cycle of
poverty.
Thank you for helping with this
project.
