The St. John Vianney Players

Drama Program

The SJV Players are an award winning, after school Performance and Technical Drama Troupe for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students, and is directed by Yogi Mueller.  The Troupe performs two shows a year:  a straight play in the fall and a musical in the spring.   Auditions are held, but past technical, voice or acting experience is not required.

In addition, members of the SJV Players are eligible to participate in District and State Competition.  We submit a one-act play every two years.   The last two shows we submitted received 1st place and Critique’s Choice honors at the District Level and Superior and Excellence distinctions at the State Level.

Our Mission is C.L.E.A.R

Band

Mr. Lisi is the band director at SJV School. The instrumental music program at SJV School consists of three bands; Beginning, Intermediate and Advance. Students become a part of the program in the 4th grade. Instruments are easy to rent from outside sources. Mr. Lisi will advise parents as to their best options. Intermediate band consists of students in 5th and 6th grades who have completed all the requirements for beginning band and are ready for more advanced music. Advance band consists of students from 6th through 8th grades. These students are very well versed in playing their instrument and reading music proficiently. Each of these accomplished young musicians have a good background in playing with others in a group band environment. Most 8th grade students move on to high school band. All band practices are held during lunch recess hours. All instrumental lessons on all instruments are instructed by Mr. Lisi.

Chorus

Mr. Lisi is the Chorus director at SJV School. Chorus consists of students from 5th to 8th grade. There is an audition held to determine if the interested student has basic pitch control. There are no levels involved (eg., beginning, advance, etc.). Most chorus members join Chorus to enjoy singing various music styles of Pop, Folk, etc. in a group performance situation. Mr. Lisi instructs chorus members in voice control, pitch, breathing, and other basics of singing. Chorus practices are held on Monday afternoons at 1:50 p.m.

Cantors

Cantors are students from 6th through 8th grade who show a very high interest and level of commitment in singing for Wednesday morning school Masses. Cantors are carefully auditioned and screened for their talents in leading hymns and singing in a solo situation in front of their peers. Cantor practices are held twice a week for each individual who would be scheduled to cantor for the upcoming Mass. Mrs. Ponder, Mrs. Riney, and Mr. Lisi work with cantors. Auditions are held at the beginning of the school year.
