For 50 years, St. John Vianney Catholic School has been guiding students on their faith journey while challenging them to strive for academic excellence.  A “Nationally    Recognized Blue Ribbon School,” St. John Vianney has graduated over 3,000 students.  With the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia at the helm, a highly qualified and caring   faculty utilizes innovative instructional    methods along with the latest technology to ensure that our Pre-Kindergarten through 8th Grade students are well prepared for success and determined to make a difference in the 21st century.

About the Annual Fund

The St. John Vianney Catholic School Annual Fund:

· Is an integral part of the school’s operating  budget

· Provides financial stability for our school

· Helps bridge the gap between tuition and the actual cost of educating a student

· Assists in the maintenance and upgrade of our technology program

· Allows investment in capital improvements

Father Miguel Gonzalez, our pastor, and Sister Elizabeth Murphy, our principal, work closely with the School Advisory Board to identify the areas of greatest need.  All donations directly impact our students and their families as we continue to provide a high quality, affordable, Catholic education for our economically and culturally diverse St. John Vianney School Community.

Gifts to the Annual Fund:

·         Have totaled over $800,000 from school parents, faculty and staff, grandparents, alumni, past parents and friends

·         Allowed the enhancement of lighting throughout the classrooms this summer

·         Enhanced the Resource Department with technology, including iPads

·         Have provided tuition assistance to families in  financial need

Annual Fund FAQs

What is the annual fund?

Like many other academic and religious organizations, St. John Vianney Catholic School’s Annual Fund finances strategic projects and ensures a positive financial future for the school.

What is the goal?

The goal for the 2010-2011 Annual Fund is $120,000.

Where is the money going?

Proceeds from the Annual Fund will help finance strategic projects that have been identified in the school’s strategic plan including the school’s tuition assistance programs.  The proceeds from the Annual Fund also help to keep tuition affordable for all families.

What kind of support is needed?

The St. John Vianney community is strong and dynamic.  Our success has been built upon the generosity of people’s time, talent, and treasure.

Who is being asked for money?

We are asking school parents, faculty, grandparents, alumni, friends and past donors to consider supporting the school through a financial donation.

 How may I donate?

Gifts may be made via the school website at www.sjvs.org  and by “clicking” on the Annual Fund tab. Follow instructions on our secure e-Giving form. Of course, donations may also be sent in via students, dropped off, or mailed directly to the school:

Can someone who is not a school family, grandparent or alum donate to the fund?

Yes, by all means, if someone wishes to support the campaign they can do so.

Does this replace other fundraisers?

St. John Vianney Catholic School’s fundraisers have always been very successful.   Our fundraisers are also social events in that they provide a sense of community for the school.  Fundraisers are an integral part of our school and we will continue to count on them to raise funds to be used for annual operating expenses.  The Annual Fund is designed to raise funds above and beyond school fundraisers.

Why do we have an annual fund?

An annual fund provides an opportunity for people of many constituencies to consider a donation to the school. People have many choices when it comes to charitable donations.  We believe that a donation to St. John Vianney Catholic School is a very worthwhile choice. The Annual Fund turns charitable gifts of all sizes into a collective pool of support for our school community.

Why don’t we just raise tuition to cover costs?

St. John Vianney Catholic School has provided high-quality, affordable, Catholic education for 50 years in Orlando.  Our diverse culture represents people from all backgrounds and locations.  It is our goal to keep the tuition affordable and comparable in cost to other Catholic schools in the Orlando metropolitan area.

Does this replace my donation to the church?

No.  Our school population is comprised of active, supportive members of the Catholic Church. Our school is a ministry of the parish.  In early 2005, St. John Vianney Catholic Church introduced tithing to the parish with great success.  A standard amount for charitable donations is 10% of annual income.  We realize that many families tithe (typically 5%) and then make decisions as to where they will make additional charitable donations (perhaps a university, local charity, health research, etc.). We would hope that donors would consider St. John Vianney Catholic School when considering where to make a donation after they have tithed to the church.

Is my contribution to the Annual Fund tax-deductible?

Yes.  St. John Vianney Catholic School is a 501c(3) charitable organization.

Can I make my gift in honor of someone?

Yes.  Donations can be made in honor of any person. Please note that on the form or envelope when making your donation.

Can I earmark my donation for a certain cause?

We would prefer that funds be donated to the general fund so that prioritized, strategic projects can be funded. However, we will honor requests for specific, earmarked items.

Can my donation be anonymous?

Yes, donors wishing to remain anonymous can request that on the donation envelope.

Are we the only Catholic school in Orlando with an annual fund campaign?

Other schools in the Diocese have Annual Fund campaigns as well as endowments.

How does the Annual Fund fit into the development program that we have heard about over the past few years?

The Annual Fund is a part of our overall strategic plan.  In 2003, a new strategic plan was developed after analyzing all aspects of the school.  In 2004, the planning committee developed comprehensive communications to reach out to school constituencies.  In 2005, the Annual Fund was introduced to finance strategic projects. Since the inauguration of the Annual Fund, over $800,000 has been raised to benefit all of the children of St. John Vianney Catholic School.

How much am I expected to give?

Every gift, no matter the amount, is appreciated.  Appropriate gift amounts can only be determined by the individual family. The goal is that every family will participate at a level that is comfortable for them as they prayerfully consider the value that they place on their child’s education and confident in the knowledge that every dollar enhances the excellent educational experience for all students at St. John Vianney Catholic School.
