Intermediate Curriculum

Intermediate: 3 - 5

Our dual language curriculum from Kindergarten through Fifth Grade provides instruction in both English and Spanish. Students learn the subject matter through a 50/50 model of both languages.

RELIGION

Students in grades 3 to 5 grow in their knowledge of God’s family, the Church, and understand that Catholics learn about God through both Scripture and Tradition. They deepen their knowledge of the Sacraments and learn that the Paschal Mystery relates to Jesus’ passion, death, Resurrection and Ascension.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS

Students in the intermediate grades demonstrate a command of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing. They can determine the meaning of unknown and multiple meaning words and phrases according to their grade level, and read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension.

MATHEMATICS

Students are fluently adding and subtracting in the intermediate grades. By grade 3 they are introduced to multiplication and division, understanding fractions, telling and measuring time, and generating measurement data such as lengths, liquid volume, and mass.

SCIENCE

Science instruction includes learning about the solar system, animals and plants and how they are classified into major groups, and different forms of energy such as light, heat, and sound. Students raise questions about the natural world and investigate those questions individually and in teams.

SOCIAL STUDIES

Students in grades 3 to 5 gain an understanding of the U.S. Constitution and learn to identify local, state and federal levels of government and how they work. They learn the characteristics of money and basic economic principles related to the exchange of goods and services. They learn to identify the continents and oceans on a world map, and can describe the physical features and populations of the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean.

SPECIALS

Students in Grades 3 to 5 receive instruction in Special Areas, which include Music, Art, STEM, P.E. and Spanish. Visit the Special Areas page for more information.
