A Note from Sister Elizabeth
Dear Parents,
Peace and all
good!
On
Sunday, January 29, 2012, we begin our week-long celebration of
Catholic School’s Week. At this time every year we honor our
school’s excellence, reflect on our mission, and live out our
traditions.
This
year’s theme is “Catholic Schools: “Faith. Academics.
Service.” Our Good News focuses on our lived faith together in
a loving environment, and on our outstanding achievements. Each
day I step back to look in awe at ALL God has given us. My
heart is moved to say “Thank you God for So much.”
I
thank God for the loving faith and educating communities we
continue to grow, for the support of our Pastor, Fr. Miguel, the
commitment of you, our parents, the selfless giving of
our volunteers, the dedication of our faculty and staff, the
time and talents of our Boards, and for the outstanding
accomplishments of our students. I AM the most blessed of all
principals, thus my constant thanks to God, the giver of
all gifts – Glory to Him forever.
Parents, come and be proud of your children, your school, and
your accomplishments. St. John Vianney School is the Best
because you contribute your Time, Talents, and Treasure. Join
us for the activities of the week. Help us make the week a
treasured Memory.

Christmas, 2011
Dear Parents,
Shout for joy! Clap your
Hands! Make joyful noises
To the Lord! It is Christmas!
Christmas is the most wondrous feast – it is the birthday of
Jesus who came to show us a God of Love. This Christmas
celebrate with Simplicity, the True meaning of Christmas.
Christmas is a time of Love – may the love you share
be strengthened as you gather with your family and friends
around the table of festivity and nourishment.
Christmas is a time of Hope. May hope settle in your
soul. May it give you courage when distress disturbs your inner
peace.
Christmas is a time of Thanks. May you always give
thanks for your abundant blessings of health and treasure.
Christmas is a time of Togetherness. May you give and
receive Love generously and may every person who comes into your
life be greeted as another Christ.
Merry Christmas, Parents. Enjoy the sacredness of
your togetherness. Pause to treasure your family and the
friends you are blessed to have in your lives.
May Christmas blessings and great joy fill your lives
now and in the New Year, 2012.
With
love,
Sr. Elizabeth
December 7, 2011
Peace
and all good!
It is Advent! This is
our time of waiting in joyful anticipation for the feast of
Christmas, the birth of Jesus, our Savior. What joy, what grace
awaits us as we prepare for His coming in history and His second
coming in time!
In this Advent season,
let our waking, working, eating, sleeping, and being breathe
Christ into our World. It appears that now more than ever our
World needs the love and tenderness of Christ. Only you and
your family can bring that Hope and that Love to everyone you
meet.
Throughout the weeks
of Advent, we read Scripture verses that are filled with the
imagery of preparation. These hopeful images encourage us in
our own preparation to welcome Jesus at Christmas. God loves it
when we come to Him, ready to straighten our crooked paths,
smooth out our bumpy roads! And, what better way to get ready
than to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Tuesday,
December 13, at 7:00 p.m.

This Advent, in the midst of the
busyness, I encourage you to set aside a few minutes each
evening to gather with your child/ren around the Advent wreath
to pray and to await the joy of Christmas.
Pray, “Come, Lord Jesus and
live in us.”
May you and your family
be signs of hope and to those who have no hope. May you live
in expectation as together you await the birth of Jesus in your
heart and in our World.
Our Challenge: Each
day we continue to learn about and to work on:
1.
Eliminating
prejudice so that we can find the best in others.
2.
Daring to dream
and set goals.
3.
Choosing positive influences.
4.
Using kind words.
As we work on these, we will make
a difference at home and in school.
Volunteers:
A heartfelt thanks to parents and
grandparents who volunteer for so many hours of service in
classrooms, library, lunchroom, and playground. Some days we are
very shorthanded. I am asking for extra help during the days
before Christmas. Our children need recess and without parent
help we cannot have a safe recess. Please help! You will enjoy
the children.
Christmas Program:

This is to remind you that our
Christmas Program has 2 scheduled showings on Tuesday, December
20th. The First Show will feature Pre K thru 8th
grades at 1:15 p.m. All Grandparents and
“others” are invited. 850 seats only.
The Evening Show will feature K-8th
grades at 7:00 p.m. Due to fire regulations only 850
seats will be provided. This show is for parents/guardians
only. Parking is limited!! Due to exorbitant cost,
security will not be provided.
Please Note:
All students in K-8th grades must be present
for the evening show. Please do not bring babies or small
children to the night show. They are welcome for the afternoon
show. Please understand that we can no longer have an audience
larger than 850 in our community Center. It is against our fire
code. Students may be dropped off at 6:30 p.m. at the front
door of school. No one is allowed inside. This keeps order.
Parents, thank you for
the trust you put in us. We are partners in education with
you. Your children are your special gift to us. We treasure
them and love them.
May the Christ in you
reach out to touch the Christ in all you meet. May God bless
you and keep you in His care.
Blessings,
Sr. Elizabeth

Dear Parents,
Peace and all
good!
The weeks and
months have quietly and quickly flown by and now it is
Thanksgiving, a time for awareness of our many blessings and a
time to give gratitude for our gifts. Thanksgiving is the time
when it is significant and necessary for us to ponder deeply all
that we have been given. If we reflect quietly and honestly we
can be overwhelmed by all that is ours. God has been very
generous. God gives all gifts freely.
As you sit around
your Thanksgiving table it is the perfect time to remember to
thank this generous God. Take time to reflect on the people in
your life who are special gifts to you, your spouse, your
children, your family, and friends.
This Thanksgiving
my heart sings a song of joy. I give thanks for you, the
parents of St. John Vianney Catholic School. You are the very
fiber of its being. Your constant generosity and support are
overwhelming. May God bless you always. I give thanks for your
children who fill my life and the lives of our faculty and staff
with abundant joy. Your children are like you, always giving,
caring, hospitable, joyful, and industrious. I treasure them
each day and I always remember them to God.
I give thanks to
God for our Parish, for our Pastor and priests who support our
school and who always affirm our students. How blest we are in
every way!
Parents, enjoy
every good gift God has given you and, most especially, the time
you spend with family this Thanksgiving. Do spend time with God
– He awaits your Thanks.
Happy Thanksgiving

Blessings and peace,

Sr. Elizabeth

Dear Parents,
October 3, 2011
Peace and all
good!
This week we begin
a new month, October, and in earnest the Fall season. We are
seven weeks in school – just two weeks away from finishing our
first nine week term. Great learning is evidenced everywhere
and your child/ren should feel very much at home with their
teachers and their new friends in their new classroom
environments. It is my hope that as parents you are getting to
know your child/ren’s teachers, as well as the curriculum, the
policies, the routines, and all that goes into making each
school day a happy and exciting learning experience for your
child/ren. Statistics indicate that when parents are involved
with the child/ren’s learning environment they see better
results.
This school year
is so exciting for all of us. It is the 50th
Anniversary of the founding of our school. This coming
Saturday, October 8, 2011 we open the yearlong festivities with
the Golf Tournament at Grand Pines. I am so excited to be part
of this great day. From everything that I am seeing and
anticipating, it will be the highlight of all the tournaments we
have ever had.
My deepest
gratitude goes to Melissa Quinn, Maria Torres, Lynette Weaver,
and the entire PTO Board for their amazing leadership. After
the tournament I will write to you about our guests of honor and
all that made the day a spectacular event.
On October 26th
Bishop John Noonan will celebrate Mass in the Community Center
with us. this is Media Day at St. John’s. Each News Station
has been invited to share the good news of 50
years of Catholic education in Orlando and Central Florida.
Did you know that
children from St. John Vianney Parish attended school at St.
James Cathedral School in the late 50’s and early 60’s? Do you
know that students from Holy Redeemer, Kissimmee, Holy Family,
and St. Thomas School in St. Cloud came to SJV before they built
their own schools?
Join us for Media Day, we look
forward to having your support.
Parents, if you know of
graduates of St. John Vianney or you meet them through work or
friends, please be an ambassador and let them know about our
Mass of Celebration and Gala on January 21, 2012. This will be
a huge celebration to honor our 50 years of Catholic Education
in Central Florida.
I am sure that you
have noticed that our Church is under “Extreme Make Over.” Yes,
it is an inconvenience but by Thanksgiving we will be
worshipping in beautiful surroundings. It will be worth the
wait.
Things to Remember:
1.
Cell phone use is totally unacceptable during morning
arrival, dismissal, the parking lot, volunteer
time at lunch and recess, and in our hallways.
2.

Dear Parents,
We have begun our
4th week in school! Where has time gone? Each week
has gotten better – new students and their families are feeling
more at home. Our school is enjoying the blessing of one big
family. It is a joy to work in an atmosphere where love for one
another is the glue that holds us all together. Here at St.
John’s we are ever conscious that each student is a valued
treasure and that each one is a future leader of our Church and
our World. Each day we embrace each child as a unique creation
of God. We remind them, “I am a child of God and I am the
Very Best.” Always, always, we try to keep our
environment welcoming, nurturing, and spiritual resulting in a
disciplined academic experience.
As partners in
education you, our parents, and we, the teachers, serve as role
models and witnesses in living Catholic/Christian values and
lifestyles. Our students are your legacy to the World. They
must be prepared spiritually, emotionally, physically, and
academically.
We teach our
students how to pray and keep God as their Center Focus. We
teach them to listen, to be independent, to be respectful, and
to be resourceful. We teach them manners, etiquette, and how to
take their rightful place in society. This is not easy,
considering all that infiltrates your homes and our school.
While we have become so technologically savvy, so much has
fallen by the wayside. The arts of listening, of conversation,
storytelling, and imagination have almost become lost. Our
children live in a world where the “I” has taken over – i-phone,
i-pod, i-pad. How can you as parents stop this? Even in Church
i-phones are used for texting, gaming, appping and face-booking,
etc. While we live with constant communication we,
nonetheless, live in isolation!! Our lives are busy, busy,
busy. We have little time for family and no time to “Be”.
Parents, teach your children to “Be”. There must be quiet time,
a time without technology – no phones, no TV, just a time of
quiet, a time for “Being”.
Parents, we are
working together to create a safer and more peaceful environment
for every child. The following items will ensure this:
1.
The use of cell phones during Arrival and Dismissal is
strictly prohibited.
2.
Passing is not allowed.
3.
Parking in restricted areas and in handicapped spaces is
prohibited. Soon fines will be levied.
4.
Dismissal is getting better. Please read the following
again.
Parents/carpools will pick up students from the classrooms.
This will ensure the absolute
safety of your child/ren.
Please know that dismissal will begin at 2:50 p.m. until 3:10
p.m. To ensure safety, which is my first concern, I am
asking that families from A to L pick up at 2:50
p.m. Families from M to Z pick up at 3:00 p.m.
Do not stay to
chat in the hallways. Quickly pick up your child/ren and go to
your car. Do Not stay to chat
in the parking lot – other parents need to park. Please keep
your carpool with you – children running around or
playing in the parking lot is forbidden. The use of cell
phones is prohibited at all times around our school. If
everyone adheres to our policies, then safety is ensured.
All
parents/carpool pick-ups will enter through the side door near
the office only. Exit by
the door closest to you, for
example, the back door by the Kindergarten or the door by the 3rd
grade.
This will
alleviate the crowded condition by the office. At 3:15 students
who are not picked up will go to Alpha.
N.B.
Please read pages 9-10 of the Handbook regarding Alpha.
5.
Thursday evening we have our Annual Mandatory Parent
Meeting. Please come to hear about our Very Exciting Year ahead
– We are Celebrating 50 years of Catholic Education at
its Best. Join us for Every Event. This will be a year to
Remember, 2011-2012
As always, thank
you, parents, for your support and your trust. Your children
are loved and deeply cherished. We are here to partner you on
the journey. May the Christ in you reach out to touch the
Christ in all you meet. Blessings and Gratitude.
Thank you for your
understanding and your cooperation. We are here to serve your
child/ren and you. If you have any questions, concerns, or
suggestion, please call or e-mail us.

Dear Parents,
Peace and all
good!
Hurrah! Our first
week is complete. It was good but we need to get better. Thank
you for your patience and your cooperation. My apologies to
parents, and especially to our new parents who may have felt
frustrated with morning arrival, dismissal, uniform issues,
etc. Believe me, everything will be better this week and all
will be well as procedures and routines become more familiar
to you. Remember, you are new and everything around you
and everything you are asked to do is New. Also, know
that many of our volunteers are new and don’t realize
that you also are new at St. John Vianney School. Please let
them know and they will understand.
The following are
some tips and updates to alleviate some stress:
-
Morning Arrival:
·
Please follow the directives of the Traffic
Control Parents. By now our students should know where to go to
their classrooms so there is no need to park. Student
ambassadors, as well as 7th and 8th
graders will continue to escort Kindergarten and 1st
grade children to the classrooms. Use of cell phones is
prohibited. Absolutely No passing. This is very
dangerous.
·
Students arriving before 7:30 a.m. will go to the
Social Hall. From there they will be escorted to the
classrooms. This is a convenience for parents who must go to
work early. Mrs. Lomas and Mrs. Ruecker are the directors. The
cost is $1.00 per day! There is no charge after 7:20 a.m.
-
Lunch:
·
Please note that Yellow Tickets are
for emergency only. Students who do Not have a
lunch will call home.
-
Uniform:
·
All students in K-8 will be in uniform. Please
note that shirts with the Shield Logo are the only
shirts to be worn. Girls’ jumpers, skorts, skirts, and shorts
must be to the top of the knees.
·
Diocesan Policy is 3 inches above the knees!!
·
Shoes are black leather only tennis
shoes. Maryjanes may be worn by children in grades 1-3, but
not on P.E. days
·
All uniforms must be purchased at
Educational Outfitters Only.
·
P.E uniforms must be purchased from the P.T.O.
Please read pages
21-25 of the Parent/Student Handbook. ALL students K
through 8th grade must be in compliance with
these guidelines.
-
Dismissal:
Parents/carpools
will pick up students from the classrooms. This will ensure the
absolute safety of your child/ren. Please know that
dismissal will begin at 2:50 p.m. until 3:10 p.m. To insure
safety, which is my first concern, I am asking that
families from A to L pick up at 2:50 p.m.
Families from M to Z pick up at 3:00p.m.
Do Not
stay to chat in the hallways. Quickly pick up your child/ren
and go immediately to your car. Do Not stay to chat in the
parking lot – other parents need to park. Please keep your
carpool with you – children running around or
playing in the parking lot is forbidden. The use of cell
phones is prohibited at all times around our school. If
everyone adheres to our policies, then safety is ensured.

Dear
Parents,
August 2011
Peace and all good!
Welcome back! I
hope everyone had a restful and fulfilling summer. You have
been missed. Now we are ready to begin a New Year, the
2011-2012 school year. I am hopeful that our year together will
be peaceful and wonder-filled. I look forward to seeing you and
sharing with you. Let us remember that we are partners in the
education of your children. We are honored to work with you and
to help you on the journey.
This year our theme is:
“They’ll know we are Christians by welcoming.” Let us all work
together to create and maintain an environment
where our children are nurtured and welcomed and can grow in
peace, love, and joy.
During the summer
months lots of maintenance was done by Mr. Colon and his son,
Jonathan. We are very grateful to them for sharing their skills
and their precious time. Our school looks clean and sharp as we
begin the school year. Thanks also to Mr. Tim, Ms. Tawanda and
Ms. Wright.
This year we are so
excited to have new lights and new technology. I know you are
happy as you look at your accomplishments. Thank you for your
support. As we prepare to begin the school year, we are excited
to be celebrating 50 years of outstanding Catholic education.
Again we will count on your 100% support. Thank you for
everything so far.
Have you taken
notice of our field? During the summer it has been leveled and
beautifully maintained. Our Rosary Garden, Kindergarten fence
and playground have had tender care. Special thanks to Mr.
Everett Leesor, Tracy Ternent’s Dad. He has spent hours working
and caring for our property. So much has happened and I am so
happy and grateful.
We have new faces on
campus too. Please help me welcome them.
