Recently, there has been a small outbreak of head lice
scattered throughout several grade levels at SJV. Your
child may have come home with a paper stating a student
in their classroom has lice and tips to take to prevent
an infestation. We would like to share these
informational facts with all our parents. Please know
that this is not an alarming or highly unusual
occurrence, as this is the time of the year we typically
see outbreaks of head lice. Below are facts, prevention
tips and lastly, treatment "musts" if your child should
get head lice. The policy of SJV is to send home a
student found to have head lice for treatment, check
siblings and carpool members, check classmates and treat
the classroom. SJV has a NO Nits policy as well to
ensure no re-infestations. After your child has been
successfully treated and ALL nits are removed, you must
bring your child to the clinic to be checked before he
or she can return to the classroom.
If we can be of further assistance to you, please do not
hesitate to call the Clinic Office at 407-855-4660
ext.242 and we will be happy to answer your questions.
* They are wingless, grayish tan insects that feed
on the human scalp, about the size of a sesame seed.
* They do not infest animals and must have a human
host to live.
* They do not for jump, but crawl at high speed.
* They infest people regardless of social, economic
or ethnic status.
*They are NOT an indication of poor hygiene or
parental neglect and in fact, prefer a clean, healthy
head.
* They are passed from person to person by direct
contact or on shared objects such as hats, combs,
towels, bedding, barrettes, headphones, etc.
* The most common symptom of infestation is intense
itching on the back of the head or neck.
*They lay tiny clear to white eggs or nits on the
hair shaft.
* Discourage sharing of any headgear.
* If your child comes home with a paper stating a
classmate has lice, check your child's hair daily.
* If your child does get head lice, don't panic.
Keep your child at home, notify the school and begin
treatment.
* Check every member of the family.
*Use an effective lice killing shampoo available in
pharmacies or drug departments of stores. Take it slow
and remember to read and follow all directions carefully
and completely. Please note that a second treatment is
recommended after 7 days.
* Remove all nits using a nit removal comb. Work
in small sections under bright light and be thorough.
* Wash all bed linens, towels and clothes in hot
water and dry on the hot cycle for at least 20 minutes.
* Items such as stuffed animals, headphones, and
hats should be put in a sealed plastic bag for 2 weeks.
* Soak combs, brushes, etc. in hot, soapy water for
at least 10 minutes.
* Vacuum everywhere including carpets, pillows,
mattresses, upholstered furniture and even car seats.

Re:
Morning Arrival and Dismissal
As always the safety of our students is my
primary concern. Therefore, the following directives will
be adhered to without exception:
1. The use of cell
phones in our parking lot during drop-off and pick-up is
unacceptable. One morning recently I counted 7 parents
using cell phones during morning drop-off. This is
inexcusable because the safety of our students is being
jeopardized.
2. Left hand turns on to
South Orange Blossom Trail during morning drop-off and
afternoon pick-up are Not allowed. Right hand turns
only please, please, please!
3. During afternoon pick-up,
the first group of parents is asked to back into a parking
space. All other parents are asked to drive into a parking
space. Please be very vigilant as you pull in and out of
spaces. There have been many near misses with other
vehicles and with children.
4..When you have picked up
your children please go directly to your cars. Do not
remain to chat . It is too dangerous when children are
unattended.
5. At this point in the
year, ALL students should be capable of walking to
their classrooms without a parent escort.
6. Thank you for your
cooperation and for your prompt attention to these matters.
Compliance is necessary for the safety of all the students
at St. John Vianney Catholic School.
Dear Parents:
ONE STOP SHOPPING IS HERE!
I am pleased to announce that we now have a local
uniform company which will provide
all of your school uniform needs. Beginning with the
2008/2009 school year,
Educational Outfitters will offer you a “One Stop Shopping”
Experience.
Educational Outfitters is located at 3845 East Colonial
Drive (on the corner of Herndon
Avenue and Colonial) and offers three ways to order: In the
store, on the phone, or on
the web. Since this location is here in Orlando, we
encourage everyone to place their first
orders in the store. This also eliminates the need for a
measuring day.
Uniforms will be available for purchase beginning June 1st.
As an added bonus, from
July 7th – July 26th (and also the entire month of
December), there is a 10% discount on
all items. Educational Outfitters also honors tax free week
which is usually sometime in
August.
We are making a few changes to the uniforms, as well as
adding some cold weather items.
Please review the attachments for additional
information regarding your children’s
uniforms for the upcoming school year. Please note, there
will be a 1-Year grace period
for new uniforms. All new uniforms will need to be in place
by the 2009/2010 school
year.
Be assured that we have done everything possible to
make your experience with
Educational Outfitters a pleasant one. Mr. Larry James, the
owner, has gone the extra
mile to have everything in place and available for your
convenience.
Thank you for your patience and support as we embark on
our “One Stop Shopping”
endeavor.
Blessings,
Sr. Elizabeth & The PTO
It is important that you are aware that only black, leather
athletic shoes are acceptable for the 2009 – 2010 school year.
If you purchase them from Educational Outfitters, New Balance
would be the preferred shoe. However, if you purchase them
elsewhere, they must be all leather athletic shoes solid black,
top to bottom, with black shoelaces or Velcro. They are NOT to
be vans, sketchers, skate shoes, Keds, Converse, suede, canvas,
microfiber, nubucks, high tops, slip-ins, or boat shoes. New
Balance athletic shoes may be purchased at Educational
Outfitters for $34 - $35. Thank you for your cooperation.

We have an
exciting opportunity to share with you. We are taking part in a

called Tyson Project A+™.
Through this program, we can raise as much as $12,000 for our
school this year! The money we raise can go towards buying
books, computers, making improvements to our buildings, or
anything else that we want.
All we have
to do to participate is clip and save the entire
Project A+ label (see

label we collect is worth 24˘

where you can drop off your redemption labels.
Let's
