Pre- Kindergarten Curriculum

PreK3 and PreK4

In PreK3 students are introduced to basic Spanish. Beginning in PreK4, our dual language curriculum provides instruction in both English and Spanish. Students learn the subject matter through a 50/50 model of both languages.

RELIGION

At St. John Vianney School, the faith journey beings in Pre-Kindergarten. Children learn that God created the world and everything in it because He loves us. They begin to understand that Jesus is God and man, Son of God, and understand the Bible as the holy book that talks about God and creation.

LANGUAGE ARTS - ENGLISH & SPANISH

Learning to read and write is essential to a child’s success in school and in life. Students begin by learning the alphabet, followed by learning to identify letter sounds in words, associating sounds with objects, building vocabulary and becoming aware of rhyming words.

MATHEMATICS

In math lessons, students learn to identify and describe shapes, recognize number names, and count in sequence. They begin to understand addition as putting together and adding to, and subtraction as taking apart and taking from.

SCIENCE

Science instruction involves observing and exploring characteristics of earth, space, and living things. Students acquire knowledge about the physical properties of the world and use simple tools of science to investigate the home, classroom and other familiar places.

SOCIAL STUDIES

Students have the opportunity to explore aspects of different cultures, traditions, and ways of life in the past and present. They learn to recognize that all children and adults have roles, rights, and responsibilities at home, school, and in the community.

SPECIALS
