Primary Curriculum

Primary: K-2

Our dual language curriculum for Kindergarten through Fourth Grade provides instruction in both English and Spanish. Students learn the subject matter through a 50/50 model of both languages.

RELIGION

As students grow in their faith, they learn about Jesus’ life and his ministry on earth and understand the Bible as containing two parts: the Old Testament and the New Testament. They learn that Jesus gives Himself to us in the Eucharist. Students in second grade prepare for First Communion.

LANGUAGE ARTS - ENGLISH & SPANISH

Students in the primary grades focus on enhancing their command of English and Spanish grammar in writing and speaking. They learn to use singular and plural nouns with matching verbs in basic sentences and how to use verbs to convey past, present and future. Children will be able to print all upper- and lowercase letters.

MATHEMATICS

In math lessons, students build on their understanding of numbers as representing quantities and begin to solve quantitative problems. They develop their understanding of addition and subtraction, learn to use standard units of measure, and learn how to describe and analyze shapes.

SCIENCE

Science instruction focuses on asking scientific questions and defining problems. They use simple models to carry out investigations and interpret data to arrive at scientific explanations and solutions.

SOCIAL STUDIES

Primary grade students are introduced to basic concepts related to history, geography, and economics. By the second grade they begin to delve deeper into U.S. history, explore the geography of North America, and discover foundations of American citizenship.
