St. John Vianney School pursues academic excellence across the curriculum. Our curriculum is based on Diocesan-approved standards and learning objectives which exceed both state and national performance norms. All resources and curriculum materials used in our school are aligned with the National Standards and Benchmarks for Effective Catholic Elementary and Secondary Schools and are approved by the Diocese.  SJVS supports a 50-50 approach to dual language in Pre-K4-Kindergarten. This goal is to be completed by the year 2024.

Middle school students require a student-centered environment and curriculum for optimum physical, social, intellectual, and emotional growth.  Teachers encourage students to recognize differences and celebrate diversity and use it to expand learning. In addition, the school emphasizes the education and development of the whole child: moral and spiritual, intellectual, physical, social and emotional, and artistic.  Middle school students grow in a strong emotional, caring, ethical atmosphere where students are safe, feel invited, supportive,  and comfortable. These experiences enrich the academic program and offer cross-curricular connections to the classroom when possible.

To align study with a STREAM program, the curriculum is driven by problem-solving, discovery and exploratory learning.  Technology is utilized to provide creative and innovative ways to solve problems and apply what has been learned. Each grade level completes a long-term research project embedded in their curricula to provide opportunities to collaborate, communicate and critically think throughout the curricula.

At St. John Vianney Catholic School, students learn their faith is an essential part of their daily lives. The religious education program at each grade level weaves the six tasks of catechist at developmentally appropriate levels. These six tasks are: knowledge of faith, liturgical education, moral formation, teaching to pray, education for community life and missionary initiatives. Through the study of each area the students examine the richness of their living faith and gain new insights about themselves.

Through their Catholic education, the students receive the moral foundation necessary to face the challenges and difficulties that life brings. The students will be prepared to make important decisions and to formulate an educated and faith-filled opinion on the controversial issues that they will face in the future.

Language Arts

Mathematics is taught in two paths– a standard grade level course and an enhanced curriculum. Students in the enhanced path will complete Algebra I by the end of their eighth-grade year. Students on the standard path will complete Course 3- pre-algebra math. Geometry may be taken via FLVS.

Science instruction in middle school prepares students for more advanced study at the high school level. It includes a combination of direct classroom instruction with hands-on experiments in the middle school science lab. In addition to their regular course of study, middle school students participate in a guided science fair project that culminates in school and regional science fairs.

Social Studies
Students focus on specific areas of geography and history, studying in greater depth areas previously touched upon in the intermediate grades. Beyond the content specified by the course, students will also develop research, analytic, and critical thinking skills through the evaluation of evidence, interpretation of primary sources, and writing in response to their historical study.

Enrichment Programs
In addition to direct academic instruction in the content areas and religion, students attend weekly classes in art, music, STEM Lab,  physical education, and Spanish. These experiences enrich the academic program and offer cross-curricular connections to the classroom when possible.
